Hunter Instructions

A simple, start-to-finish guide for joining a Hunt Session, recording your personal start, and logging a find in Hunt Manager.

I.

Before Hunt Day

Step 1Create Your Hunt Manager Account

Select Register and complete the registration form. This creates your Hunt Manager account; it does not sign you up for a Hunt Session.

  1. Enter your required name, callsign, and email information.
  2. Create and confirm a Preferred Passphrase. Use at least 12 characters and at least three character types; do not use personal identifiers shown on the form.
  3. An ordinary Hunter may leave Interested in Hosting Hunts? unchecked and Organization blank.
  4. Select Submit Registration.

Step 2Wait for Administrator Approval

Your account must be approved before you can log in and take part in a Hunt Session. If your account is still waiting, contact the Hunt Manager administrator or follow the instructions provided by MSRDF.

Step 3Log In

Enter your Callsign and Passphrase, choose Keep me signed in if appropriate for your device, and select Log In.

Before the Hunt

Register vs. Sign Up vs. Start Hunting

REGISTER

Creates your Hunt Manager account.

SIGN UP FOR THIS HUNT

Joins you to one specific Hunt Session.

START HUNTING

Records when you personally begin hunting.

These are three separate actions. Complete them in this order:

Step 1Open Hunts

Select Hunts.

Step 2Open the Desired Hunt

Locate the correct Hunt Session and open it. Check the hunt name, date, time, and visible status so you know you have the right session.

Step 3Sign up for this Hunt

On an Upcoming Hunt Session, select Sign Up for This Hunt. Signing up reserves your participation in that particular session.

  1. Confirm the visible status is Upcoming.
  2. Read the current Hunt Session message.
  3. Select Sign Up for This Hunt.

After signup, Hunt Manager confirms that you are signed up. Because the Hunt Session is still Upcoming, Start Hunting is not available.
III.

When the Hunt Is Active

Step 1Wait for Active

The Hunt Session will become Active at the scheduled start time. You cannot record your personal start while its status remains Upcoming.

Step 2Select Start Hunting

When the Hunt Session status is Active and you are signed up, select Start Hunting. This begins your individual Hunter timing record.

  1. Confirm you are signed up for this Hunt Session.
  2. Select Start Hunting only when you are ready to begin.

Step 3Enter Starting Odometer Reading

If Hunter Mileage is required for this Hunt Session, enter your starting odometer. The field is required when shown. For a Hunt Session that does not collect Hunter Mileage, no odometer field is shown.

Step 4Optionally Enter Start Notes

You may also add notes.

Step 5Select Record Start Hunting

Then select Record Start Hunting.

  1. For a Hunt Session that requires Hunter Mileage, enter the required starting odometer reading.
  2. Add optional notes if useful.
  3. Select Record Start Hunting.

Do not begin the Find Logging Form unless Hunt Manager has recorded your hunting start time.
IV.

Hunting

Step 1Use the Hunt Information

Use the information provided on the Hunt Session page, including the hunt description, transmitter details intended for Hunters, frequencies, boundaries, and other visible instructions. Hunt safely and follow all event directions.

When You Find the Transmitter

Step 1Find the Transmitter

Locate the transmitter.

Step 2Scan the Logging Tag

Scan its Logging Tag with your phone. The QR code opens the Find Logging Form for that transmitter and Hunt Session.

Step 3Complete the Find Logging Form

You must be logged in with an approved account, signed up for this Hunt Session, and have a recorded Start Hunting entry. Hunt Manager will refuse the find and explain the missing step if any prerequisite is not complete.

Step 4Submit Find

  1. Confirm your Hunter identity and the captured location information shown by the form.
  2. If needed, select Capture GPS again and allow Location Services and Precise Location on your device.
  3. Choose an RDF difficulty rating.
  4. Choose an On-Foot Recovery Difficulty rating.
  5. If Hunter Mileage is required for this Hunt Session, enter the required ending odometer reading. It cannot be lower than the starting reading. For a Hunt Session that does not collect Hunter Mileage, no ending odometer field is shown.
  6. Add optional comments and select a Favorite Point choice as appropriate.
  7. A photograph is optional. Hunters are encouraged to upload a JPG, PNG, or WebP photograph of themselves hunting for or finding the transmitter.
  8. Select Submit Find. If a verification code field appears, enter the code shown on the Logging Tag before submitting.
VI.

After Submitting the Find

Your Hunt Is Finished

A valid Find submission automatically records your finish and completes your individual timing record for that Hunt Session.

Step 1Review Results and Statistics

Review the T-Hunt Log. Use the T-Hunt Log link after submission to review the recorded hunt information and your result.

Review Hunter Statistics

Select Hunter Statistics directly from the top navigation to review your participation and recorded results over time.

Quick Hunt-Day Checklist

  1. Log In
  2. Open Hunts
  3. Open the Hunt
  4. Sign Up for This Hunt
  5. Wait until the Hunt Session is Active
  6. Start Hunting and Record Start Hunting
  7. Find the transmitter
  8. Scan the Logging Tag
  9. Complete the Find Logging Form
  10. Submit Find
  11. Finished — no separate End Hunt button
VIII.

Common Messages

  • Registration submitted / pending Administrator approval
    Your registration was received. You cannot participate until an Administrator approves the account.
  • You are signed up for this hunt.
    You joined this Hunt Session. If it is Upcoming, wait for it to become Active.
  • The transmitter has not been placed yet.
    The Hunt Session is Upcoming. Remain signed up and wait.
  • The transmitter has been placed. This Hunt Session has not started yet.
    The Hunt Session is still Upcoming. Start Hunting remains unavailable until it becomes Active.
  • Start Hunting is available only after this Hunt Session is Active.
    Return when the Hunt Session status is Active.
  • You must sign up for this Hunt Session before submitting a find.
    Open the Hunt page and select Sign Up for This Hunt.
  • You must record Start Hunting for this Hunt Session before submitting a find.
    Open the Active Hunt page, select Start Hunting, and then select Record Start Hunting.
  • Hunt Temporarily Paused
    Find logging is unavailable until the Hunt Session resumes.
  • No active hunt for this transmitter.
    Confirm that you scanned the correct Logging Tag and that its Hunt Session is Active.
  • Find submitted / Your find has been logged.
    Your individual hunt is finished. You can review the Hunt page and T-Hunt Log.
