What Is a Hunt Coordinator?

An MSRDF Hunt Coordinator is a registered member who has been approved to plan, schedule, and conduct transmitter hunts using the MSRDF Transmitter Hunt Manager.

Hunt Coordinators are responsible for the proper conduct of the hunts they coordinate. This includes planning the hunt, establishing the hunt area and boundaries, preparing and maintaining the transmitter, placing and retrieving the transmitter, starting and ending the Hunt Session, and maintaining the integrity of the hunt.

A Hunt Coordinator may have other amateur radio operators assist with these activities, but the Hunt Coordinator remains responsible for the Hunt Session.

Becoming a Hunt Coordinator

Hunt Coordinator privileges are not automatically granted when an account is registered.

Before being approved as an MSRDF Hunt Coordinator, a registered member should:

• Become familiar with the MSRDF Transmitter Hunt Manager by participating as a Hunter.
• Log at least three Verified Finds of MSRDF hidden transmitters through Hunt Manager.
• Become familiar with basic radio direction finding and transmitter-hunting procedures.
• Understand the responsibilities involved in safely placing, operating, maintaining, and retrieving a hidden transmitter.
• Request Hunt Coordinator privileges from MSRDF.

After completing three Verified Finds, a member becomes eligible to request Hunt Coordinator privileges.

Reaching three Verified Finds does not automatically grant Hunt Coordinator status. Hunt Coordinator privileges must still be approved by an MSRDF Administrator.

An Administrator may waive the three-find requirement when appropriate for an experienced radio direction finding operator, amateur radio club representative, or other qualified individual.

What Happens After Approval?

Once a member has qualified and been approved as an MSRDF Hunt Coordinator, additional Hunt Coordinator instructions and tools will become available in this panel.

Those future instructions will explain how to:

• Register and schedule an Upcoming Hunt.
• Establish the Hunt Area and Hunt Boundaries.
• Create the public Hunt Map and starting or parking locations.
• Configure hunt and transmitter information.
• Use the private Transmitter Key.
• Place the transmitter and start the Hunt Session.
• Perform transmitter maintenance during an Active Hunt.
• Retrieve the transmitter and end the Hunt Session.
• Manage and review Hunt Sessions and Hunt Logs.
