Hunt Log

Hunt Coordinator: McLeod Johnson (W5JMJ)

Event Description: We will be using an experimental mode for this weekend's T-hunt. Normally, our weekend T-Hunt transmitter automatically transmits (Tones, Morse Code, or an Audio Recording) for 1 minute, followed by 1 minute of silence, before repeating this cycle. However, this weekend we will be using a different mode: The T-Hunt transmitter will only transmit when it hears another radio transmit DTMF Tone #1 on the frequency it is monitoring (146.565). Upon hearing DTMF Tone #1 the T-Hunt transmitter will transmit its series of tones and ID in Morse code for 1 minute then return to listening mode. This means upon arriving at the published T-Hunt Starting Location and while driving around in the published T-Hunt Boundaries the hunters will need to transmit this tone periodically to activate the T-Hunt transmitter and take bearings on it. If this experimental mode proves to be enjoyable to our hunters we will incorporate it into a second Bonus transmitter hidden every weekend. As always, the Scott County Amateur Radio Club hides a transmitter somewhere in Scott County every Friday at 6:00 pm and retrieves it the following Sunday at 6:00 pm, giving hunters a 48 hour window of opportunity to hunt for it at a time convenient to their weekend schedule.
